Astronomy Workshop

The Astronomy Art workshop will explore a variety of topics on the fundamentals of space, including the solar system, the lunar cycle, stars, and space involvement.

Class 1: The Solar System

Class 2: The Earth & Moon

Class 3: Stars

Class 4: Space Discovery

Class 1: The first class of the workshop will cover solar systems. This will allow the students to learn about how our solar system was formed, and how the orbits of each planet correlates with the force of gravity that the sun exerts upon them. Students will also explore the characteristics of each planet, looking at aspects of size, color, moons, and structure. The artwork will further explore the fundamentals of our solar system and provide the students with their own visual representation of the planets.

Class 2: The second class of the workshop will cover the correlation of the earth and the moon. Students will uncover details about the lunar cycle, as well as discover the reasoning behind lunar and solar eclipses. They will also explore the effects of the moon’s gravity upon the earth, looking at waves and rises in sea level.The artwork will represent the phases of the moon allowing better information retention of the moon’s features.

Class 3: The third class of the workshop will cover stars and our own sun! It will explore the fundamentals of the life of a star, composition and structure of stars, types of stars, and their impact on planets, taking examples of phenomena seen on Earth. This class will also touch on the idea of light years and formation of energy. While the students explore these topics, they will learn to draw a beautiful northern lights drawing, reinforcing the concepts learned and creating a visual image of ideas discussed.

Class 4: The fourth class of the workshop will cover human interaction and exploration within space. Students will learn the reasoning and motivation behind inventions such as satellites and rockets. They will also explore the mechanisms of machines such as LIGO and the Hubble Space Telescope, as well as uncover the first steps of man on the moon. We will then be drawing a rover on Mars!
